A short little acrostic Just to say how I remember, you thought That I would spend the year Hiding behind acrostics.
Please, my dear nephew, Remember, I told you Always try something new So you don’t remain stagnant And always keep learning. Do you dare to follow my footsteps?
Seeing that it’s your birthday, and Unconditionally, you are loved, Kindness and compassion your best qualities, Uncompromisingly you give and protect, Making sure your treasure those you love And so I end with a simple Reminder, acrostics aren’t always an easy way out.
AN: So it is my nephew’s 21st birthday today and I am really proud of the young man that he is becoming. It has been my blessing and privileged to be a part of his life and watch him grow and I look forward to seeing him continue on in his journey.
When you arrive on this earth with a best friend waiting,
you become fearless, not from the strength of your will
but from the power of her love, belief and trust,
that is the power of an elder sister,
the pathfinder and wave-maker,
the one who bore the pain first,
opening paths and facing the unknown,
there to pull me forward, when I held back,
and push me back, when I rushed blindly,
for the gift of a sister, lies not in the warmth of her hand
but in the strength of her heart, in which she keeps those she cherishes.
She taught me to seek,
the ones who would hold
my past in their heart,
and wrap it with laughter,
while promising me,
with their eyes,
that they would remember me
in the future,
even if I was not there
to greet it with them.
They in turn
shared with me the
pieces of her heart,
she had left in their care
confident that even in
different bodies, they
would beat in sync
with the rhythm her song.
a tune growing and expanding
with music draw from souls
that protected and shielded
the power of her love,
a gift if legacy passed
down from the bonds of family
born and created to connect
past and future.
AN: I haven’t posted for two days, and it made me consider what I wanted to do now that the 2016 challenge was over – I have been on a bit of auto-pilot with the poems – just in that I am trying to challenge myself to grow, learn and expand my horizons. I will be making some changes to the blog.
