22/2017: Crush

This is just a little crush,
which makes every part gush.

Not rooted in reason,
but the feelings just deepen.

How do I stop the words from flowing,
before the joy in my heart starts showing.

Just being around you make me smile,
I just want to stay beside you awhile.

Enjoy the feelings of falling for you,
before I have to decide whether to bid you adieu.

Because the best part of having a crush,
is having no reason to rush.

Just enjoy the moments until you fall,
or until I get over it all.

Day 366: The End

A journey started with trepidation,
the weight of so much expectation.

How could I have said yes to this year,
was I drunk?! It’s a bit unclear!

Three hundred and sixty-six days to complete,
a challenge that is a bit too bittersweet.

For finding my voice and words once more,
means accepting I had thrown them away before.

The challenge was not to find words on a page
but seek the truths that would keep me engaged.

For this poet is just a person who is searching,
finding True North, so she can get her bearings.

And although this year may be at an end,
this poetic heart has finally started to mend.

AN: Apologies for the earlier post – Today is a busy day for my family, it is my dad’s memorial day. I had started the poem yesterday with the hopes of having it scheduled to go. Unfortunately, yesterday got away from me with errands and all the prep work for today. Totally forgot about the scheduled post until I received a notification. So apologies for the “double” post.

Day 345: Stories

My favourite stories of my dad,
are the ones where he pouts and acts sad.

They are the ones, where he throw a tantrum,
totally forgetting he is a man of wisdom.

The ones where he behaves and is a great leader,
Let the world tell those stories of glamour.

They can have the orator and the great man,
I will keep my very flawed, but loveable, human.

AN: It’s getting close to my birthday and also the day my dad passed, so I think the memories are nearer to the surface. My dad was a writer, a teacher, principal, a leader, a community builder and so on. He was loved and respected by many of his students and always (kept impressing me) remembered them and their stories. When I think of him, it is always when he was merely my dad and my friend – those are the stories that I will pass on. The other ones, about the things he did and stuff he created, I will let the world tell those.

Day 326: Chasing the Dream

Too many choices, even fear the right one,
so much to lose, even after the game’s won.

How do I pick a path, a way forward,
when the future before me is blurred?

Keep juggling opportunities in endless motion,
chasing the dreams of boundless fortune.

What happens if I drop these balls,
will the heavens finally start to fall?

Too invested to break under pressure,
there is no option but to conquer.

Day 319: I Dream of Flames

If I could be anything, I would be fire,
stirring the heart, so it would never tire.

Buring brightly and hot, a temptation for all,
but alas, only the strongest would not fall.

Within my flames, all the colours would reside,
passionately devouring the lies that we hide.

Flames mesmerize with reflections of truth and beauty,
burn off the hardened layers of your simplicity.

Smoke signals like coded messages to the skies,
challenging the sleeping souls to rise.

Dance of flickering light, pass your first test,
gaze deeply in and seek your life’s quest.

AN: Inspired by this beautiful video, shared on my friend’s Facebook. The video is Elementalist Lux Login Theme by Bruno Kuran. As I watched the changing faces; the fire persona struck me with its blend of peace, rage and “badassery” (I tried to find a better word) just spoke to me.

Day 261: Trials of the Chosen

Strength is in survival, they say
As if these words will save the day.

For scars drawn across the heart by God,
are somehow more revered and awed.

Only the worthy will conquer the struggle,
Blissfully living away from the battle.

Strength borne on shoulders, broad and stable,
Tested with bricks and stones thrown by the devil.

Understand that sometimes these shoulders droop,
tired and strained from an endless loop.

Forgive the days that this body’s broken,
to recognize the honour of being chosen.

If you ask this warrior’s weary heart,
all it will ask for is a fresh start.

Some room to grow, some songs to sing,
a warm compress to heal bruising.

Grant an ordinary life lived extraordinarily,
where faith and hope remain a sanctuary.

Let these moments of rest, before the next bout,
extend, so I understand this is what life is about.

AN: Inspired by the saying/idea “God only gives you as much as you can handle.” and of course it’s counter ” God only gives you what you can handle, I just wish s/he didn’t have so much faith in me.”

Day 201: Finding Your Way

When you are left wondering what your life’s lot is,
do you surrender to the force of nature that you fought?

Is there a grand master plan, to explain your path
or merely a great illusion created to control your wrath?

If reality stems from some divine being glorious dream,
do I need to stop and wake you midstream?

Instead, were life created by my will and my choices,
let me surround my heart with other loud voices.

Build a fort from the stones of cast my way,
a place where I know, I will be okay.

Retreat, recover, heal and pray,
let my soul lead me astray.

Find the road I should be walking,
Rather than just sitting here talking.
