It was an honour to be a part of the Durham District School Board’s, “My தமிழ் (Tamil) Identity” video and to share my poem. It was a privilege to be featured with this phenomenal group of Tamils. Thank you to DENSA DDSB for the opportunity.
“I wonder about her” is one of my favourite poems. As children of immigrants/diaspora – there is a part of you that always wonders about the land you left behind. My brothers would tell me stories of finishing off bunches of bananas with our cousins before the parents came home, getting in trouble by the trees and wells in our backyard, and running across to our cousins’ houses to play. They painted community and family so vividly, that a child who grew up trying to find her place, longed to know that life.
