Recently I shared that I would be taking part in the Scotiabank 140 character challenge – #ScotiaLovesBooks. To qualify for the contest, you had to submit stories told in 140 characters or less.
So, I did it; mainly for the fact that I hadn’t written in so long, and the thought of telling a 140 character story fueled my creative spirit. I wanted to make it a fun challenge, so I took suggestions and let my Instagram followers choose the daily topic for each submission.
I have to admit, some of my best writing came out through that process. And that best part? I was one of the lucky winners!!!
“Autumn”, written for October 11th, was the ultimate winner. An airy story that spoke about life, love and loss.
Watching the wind blow the leaves from my hands,
I heard you ask, “What are you doing?”
“Did it work?”
“Ask me in Spring.”

As a contest winner I will be receiving two tickets to the Giller Between the Pages event in Toronto and a copy of all short-listed books! I am so excited to read the books. I’ll be sure to let you know my faves!
To up my game, I added a twist. Which ever story received the most engagement on my social media, would be turned into a short story. The winner was “Unrequited Love”, so over the next few weeks, I am going to be working on my first short story based on this submission.

I’m nervous. And excited. This is the first short story I’ve written since high school and I’m super happy to share it with you guys. My goal is to post it by the end of 2018 (aiming for December 12, since that’s my birthday). I’d love any suggestions for names, as that seems to be the hardest part
Please see the slideshow below for all 10+1 (missed the deadline but still wanted to include it) of my submissions.
